Board of Directors

President: Cathleen Ruth Ahern

A Merrimac resident who grew up in Haverhill, Ahern has served on the Board of Directors of Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society (MRFRS) for the past six years. Ahern has been a foster home for MRFRS for seven years specializing in the sick and injured. She has trapped and neutered well over one thousand cats and has set up low cost, no cost spay neuter programs for the Haverhill area. This program has helped to spay /neuter several hundred low income family cats. Ahern helped to found the Danville Feral Cat Sanctuary which is now under control of MRFRS. She also went to New Orleans for seven weeks to help with the animal rescue efforts.

She has a B.S. in Business Management from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Treasurer: Lynda Schnare
Schnare is on the Board of directors at the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society, Salisbury, MA, as Treasurer. She is the owner of Cat Whiskers Inn, a unique feline-only boarding facility in Bradford, MA. Lynda also provides bookkeeping services and accounting consulting services to small businesses in her spare time.

For the past 25 years, Lynda worked in the accounting field as a Controller for several manufacturing companies. Lynda decided to change careers and open Cat Whiskers Inn because of her devoted love of cats. She is an active member of the Tonkinese Breed Association and has two lovely, rescued, Tonkinese cats in her life.

A resident of Bradford, MA, with her husband, Kenneth Timmins, Lynda has a B.S in Accounting from Northeastern University, Boston, MA and an A.S. in Architectural/ Interior Design from Mt Ida College, Boston, MA. Lynda has attended C.E.T. University for Feline/Canine Dental studies. She is also an active member in the Institute of Management Accountants and is a Notary Public.

Board of Directors

Dianne McDermott
McDermott, a long time supporter of rescue organizations such as the MSPCA, brings her marketing and promotional expertise to ARMV. Her focus is communicating ARMV events, clinics, and fundraising events in the communities we serve. McDermott is founder/owner of McDermott and Company Marketing, providing marketing/advertising services for entrepreneurs. She also serves on the board of directors for the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce. A long term resident of Haverhill, McDermott holds a BS from Springfield College and a MSW from Boston University.

Laurin A Downey
Downey has taken an active role helping the stray, feral, sick and injured cat population. She volunteers at free spay/neuter clinics and manages and assists feral cat colonies. She looks to involve more community members to address the needs of our furry community members who by no fault of their own find themselves homeless. Downey has been a long term resident of Methuen and now lives in Lawrence. At the Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre she works with our frail and elderly human population through the therapeutic activities program.

Christen Harrison
Harrison has been spay/neutering and caring for stray and feral cats for ten years. She has worked as a tax accountant in Boston and Metro North for the past twelve years in the investment management industry. She received a B.S. from Merrimack College and a MSA from Bentley College. She has a passion for gardening, ballet dancing and the welfare of animals.

Advisors

Sharon Lynn DuBois
DuBois is founder and president of Billerica Cat Care Coalition of Billerica, MA, a non-profit cat rescue founded in 2004, dedicated to TNR and care for feral cats, as well as foster and adoption of abandoned cats.

She is currently an economic development specialist for the City of Lawrence, MA. Sharon holds a Master's degree Fordham University in N.Y., and a B.A. Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y.

Michelle Hamel
Hamel is Haverhill's first Certified Animal Control Officer. She works closely with MRFRS and the MSPCA, MSPCA Law Enforcement. Hamel educates the public the regarding spay/neuter of all pets, helps low income families care for their pets by distributing cat and dog food and arranging spay/neuter and medical care. Michelle believes that all God's creatures should be respected. Michelle grew up in Haverhill and attended the NECC Criminal Justice program.



 
A Dog Story

"Dumpster Dog" was found in a dumpster in Haverhill weighing a mere 35 pounds. Dumpster Dog, The Rescued Dog He is now on the road to recovery and will be ready for adoption to a good loving family in the near future.
