FERAL CAT INFORMATION
A feral cat is one that has been abandoned by its human caregivers and has reverted back to its innate, wild instincts in order to survive. It can also be the offspring of abandoned cats and may never have had contact with humans. A socialized or semi-feral cat is one that has received its initial "human touch," love, and attention in the home of a feral foster family. The foster family has worked with its feral charge, gradually and gently handling the cat and proceeding at a pace that is comfortable for the cat, in order to gain its trust and help it adjust to "domesticated" life.

If you know of a feral cat(s) in Haverhill, Lawrence, Methuen, Merrimac, Groveland, Andover, North Andover and Plaistow, NH, please email the details to ARMV@ARMV.org or call 1-978-374-SAFE for assistance.

MORE ON FERAL CATS: CARE AND RESOURCES

Can I adopt a socialized feral cat?
A "socialized" feral is not the right cat for everyone. Households with very young children or where there is a lot of activity, homes with many other companion animals, or those people who expect an "instant" lap cat - will probably want to adopt a more domesticated cat. But for those people who are willing to extend their compassion to these special cats and give them patience and understanding, along with much love, the bond that can develop between a feral and its human guardian is a wonderful reward.

How can I help the feral cats in my neighborhood?
Please email ARMV@ARMV.org.

We recommend that anyone interested in learning more about community efforts to help needy cats, should join the Mass Cats Yahoo online group. Mass Cats is a network of caring people helping cats, covering Massachusetts and bordering states. Sign up by sending an e-mail to: masscats-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.

Do you rent out traps?
Yes, we do. It is $5 to rent a trap for a wk with a deposit left. If you are an ARMV volunteer, the rent is waived as long as we have volunteer information on file.

Spay/Neuter Info for Feral Cats is available on our spay/neuter pages.

Squeeky's Story

Squeeky was abandoned in Haverhill where a kind person found her in her hallway Squeeky, The Rescued Cat and held on to her and gave her a bath until ARMV could get her into a foster. She is a spitfire! She was adopted quickly and is happy in her new home.
