  ABOUT US - MISSION

Animal Rescue Merrimack Valley is an all volunteer, non-profit organization that provides:
  • Education and financial assistance for spay/neuter programs
  • Care for sick and injured animals
  • Dog and cat adoption resources
  • Foster care for cats and kittens
  • Support for spay/neuter/feeding for feral cats
  • Community education
Our goals are education, rescue and responsibility.

Education for pet owners and the public of the importance of spay/neuter and how to report feral cat activity.

Rescue sick or injured cats and dogs and support Animal Control Officers with emergency funding and adoption support.

Responsibility: Caring for our animal population is the responsibility of each person. Animal Rescue Merrimack Valley is a group of experienced cat and dog rescue volunteers coming together to focus on Haverhill, Lawrence, Merrimac, Groveland, Methuen, North Andover, Andover and Plaistow, NH.

In each town ARMV serves, there are several hundred stray and feral cats. As I write this, one of our Animal Control Officers reports she is looking at 15 cats on ONE street, all skinny and dirty and unneutered. This is the same neighborhood we have picked up three seriously injured cats over the past year. One was shot by a pellet gun. What will ARMV do? We will set up a feeding station and then we will trap, neuter, return and feed the managed feral cat colonies. And if we have foster homes available, we will bring the tame cats in for adoption.

How can you help?
  • You can donate money to help with the cost of medical treatment. See our donation pages for details.
  • You can foster a cat so he/she can be adopted.
  • You can help with trapping strays and feral cats.
  • You can volunteer to help with feeding and monitoring an area for new strays.
  • See our volunteer page for details.
Hundreds of dogs and cats are abandoned each year in your community. Education and spay/neuter are critical to stop the breeding and passing out of puppies and kittens to neighbors.

Won't you join us?
You don't need experience, just the desire to help your hometown strays!

Scraggle's Story

Named for his scraggley whiskers, this poor guy spent the winter lying next to a person's house. Scraggles, The Rescued CatHe was ill and didn't move much. She didn't know who to call, so she fed him while he suffered through the freezing snow and rains. Finally, ARMV brought him into foster care. He is so happy to be warm and dry and purrs and purrs when petted.

WHY SPAY/NEUTER?

The number of healthy dogs and cats euthanized in the United States is staggering. Over five million each year! Hundreds of thousands of healthy dogs and cats are euthanized yearly in Massachusetts alone. The only way to stop this is through a dedicated and comprehensive spay/neuter effort and the promotion of adoption of shelter animals.

ARMV is initiating spay/neuter campaigns in each community, reaching out to the low income families to help them get their pets neutered. ARMV will pay for the spay/neuter and arrange transportation if necessary.

Why don't more people spay/neuter their pets? It now costs between $200-300 to spay a cat and even more for dogs! Area veterinarians generously work with ARMV to do low-cost spay/neuter programs.
