  RESCUE LOG

Every day, Animal Rescue Merrimack Valley helps animals in need.

We support the Animal Control Officers in the communities we serve with our available resources for adoption, foster and help with the sick and injured animals. The more dollars we have available, the more readily we can help our ACO's with emergency care. Please donate. Please sign up as a foster home.

Rescue Stories
The following are just a few of the stories that we've begun to collect. Some are heart wrenching; some are painful to read. Please help us help these animals. Donate.

Otterhound : This very sweet lost Otterhound was found in Lawrence after wandering away from home. She found a feral cat feeding station to keep her nourished. This poor lost dog was eating the food as fast as our volunteers put it down. When the ARMV volunteer arrived the dog was very nervous but she got close enough to lick the volunteer's hand. The dog was taken to the police station and put her in a nice safe kennel for the night. Lawrence Animal Control scanned her for a microchip and she was able to return home the same day! Returned home!

Abyssinian: ARMV paid for rescuing six cats from trees in this past year alone! In each case the cats had been up the tree for more than 3 days, some as long as a week in freezing cold weather. This guy is a pure bred Abyssinian. It took two weeks to find his owner who missed him terribly and was certain he had died in the freezing cold. Lucky for this little guy, we have contracted with some awesome tree climbers who will come out day or night. Returned home!

Boo Boo: When this terrified, skinny and dirty cat was caught in Lafayette Square in Haverhill, he needed dozens of stitches in his head. He is now completely healed physically and mentally and is ready for adoption.

Affectionately known as "Dumpster Dog" this sweetie was found starving at 35 lbs in a dumpster in Haverhill. A healthy boxer should weigh twice that much! He's on the road to recovery and as soon as his weight is stable he'll be available adoption. Adopted!

Ice was pulled off a Lawrence snow bank barely conscious. He was so emaciated and dehydrated, his eyes were shrunken into their sockets. We thought he may be blind if he lived. It took him almost a month before he could walk and jump but he is completely well and a very happy and playful cat!

A case of financial need - A sick kitten in Andover died because its owner didn't know that financial assistance was available. The woman couldn't afford to have her treated at the rate of $75-100 as quoted by a vet. Had the woman known of all the financial aid available, had called ARMV or taken the kitten to the MSPCA, the kitten's life could have been saved.

Mama Summer and her five three-week-old babies were tossed out like trash in Haverhill in early April on below freezing nights. Luckily a neighbor heard them crying. The kittens and Summer (a real sweetheart) are available for adoption. Black Kittens Adopted!

Niki was starving to death right in the middle of Haverhill. No one bothered with her even though she was crying at people's doors. ARMV provided a foster home where she cleaned up nicely. This sweetheart is now available for adoption.

Bottle Baby - While Trapping and neutering 11 cats at a Haverhill farm, it was discovered at the clinic that the teenage cat was about to give birth. This baby was born two days later and teenage mom didn't know what the heck to do with her. Her other two kittens died from birth defects but this little one lives on with the help of bottle feeding.

Scraggles - so named fo his scragglely walk and scraggely whiskers. This poor guy spent the winter lying next to a person's house. He was ill and didn't move much but since she didn't know who to call, she fed him and on he suffered through the freezing snow and rains. Finally, someone contacted ARMV in April and he is happily in foster care. He has a long road to recovery as it was discovered he is diabetic, very weak and emaciated. But he is so happy to be warm and dry and purrs and purrs when petted.

Wallerina - After trapping and neutering 11 cats in Haverhill including this little one's Mom, this little one ran by the trapper screaming her hungry little head off! It took a few moments to trap the hungry little 4 week old and after a day or two of hissing and spitting she has become the happiest, playful and affectionate kitten EVER! Adopted!
